VERY URGENT: New Google (Blogger) Content Policy

UPDATE BELOW:

Hello everyone, this is a shitty way to start off the week, especially after finally getting past my bronchitis, but now it seems Blogger has decided to kill off its adult-oriented blogs at long last. Here's the email I got this morning:

"Dear Blogger User,
We're writing to tell you about an upcoming change to the Blogger Content Policy that may affect your account.

In the coming weeks, we'll no longer allow blogs that contain sexually explicit or graphic nude images or video. We'll still allow nudity presented in artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific contexts, or where there are other substantial benefits to the public from not taking action on the content.

The new policy will go into effect on the 23rd of March 2015. After this policy goes into effect, Google will restrict access to any blog identified as being in violation of our revised policy. No content will be deleted, but only blog authors and those with whom they have expressly shared the blog will be able to see the content we've made private.

Our records indicate that your account may be affected by this policy change. Please refrain from creating new content that would violate this policy. Also, we ask that you make any necessary changes to your existing blog to comply as soon as possible, so that you won't experience any interruptions in service. You may also choose to create an archive of your content via Google Takeout (https://www.google.com/settings/takeout/custom/blogger).

For more information, please read here (https://support.google.com/blogger?p=policy_update).

Sincerely,
The Blogger Team

This will certainly adversely affect Degraded Damsels, though I'm less certain of what it will mean for the sister blog, Humbled Harlots. DD is obviously filled with sexually-explicit visual content, while HH is mostly text. The new Blogger content rules specify only images and video, not adult-oriented text. So HH may be able to survive, we'll just have to see. I'll remove all the cover images, just to be sure, though that might not matter to Google, despite what their email claims.

As for Degraded Damsels, it looks likely that this is the end. I'm very open to any suggestions from you all. Tumblr is probably the most obvious place to relocate, as I hate what Yahoo has done with its groups, but Tumblr isn't very workable as far as commenting goes and I'm not very familiar with it's functions.

If anyone knows of anywhere else that might serve my blog needs better than Tumblr, please let me know. I'm going to be doing a lot of research over the next few days.

Until I've decided what I'm going to do, I'm reaccepting members in my Absurd Tales yahoo group. There isn't any content there, but it will allow us all a way of communicating in the advent that Google deletes/blocks Degraded Damsels. When you join Absurd Tales, please leave a message that mentions Degraded Damsels, so I know you aren't a spambot. Yahoo is overflowing with spambots.

Otherwise, I'm going to be very busy for the next few weeks, trying to save and relocate everything. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, thank you. More to come in the near future.

UPDATE: Alright, I've set up a basic Tumblr page here: http://degradeddamsels.tumblr.com/

Check it out and let me know what you think. I've only uploaded a few pics, but it looks like tumblr is shrinking my caps by about 20% for some reason. I'll keep working on it.

  1. How about a different bloging platform, such as Wordpress? Other than the inconvenience of moving the content over, I don't think it will be too drastic a change...

  2. This is disappointing for all my favorite adult-oriented captioned blogs. I don't quite know much about the content policy of WordPress, so I cannot solidly recommend it. Hope it goes well. GL

  3. For Tumblr, take a look at templates that allow Disqus commenting. It's basically a standalone comment system you can embed into any kind of page, and you can allow anonymous comments and so on.

    1. I've set up Disqus for comments now at the Tumblr site. Hopefully it works, ha. Took a bit of html code copy/pasting, but seems to be set up right.

If a few people wouldn't mind leaving a comment or two, that might help me see if it's working correctly or not. I left one already, and it seems to have gone through.

  5. This seems to be the common topic this morning, my understanding is that the blog and its content will remain just access by the "general" public, I think that this means that the various blogs will be private as those currently members will still be able to view the content and new viewers will need to apply for membership, is that right?

I don't think Tumblr lends its self to this format but Wordpress might.

  6. Hi,
I really feel sorry for you. I'm reading your blog since years now, and liked every second of it.

    To your problem:
I really don't think tumblr is the right place for you. The biggest problem is the reblog-system: Within a short time, all your caps will be rebloged on several other tumblr pages, is this what you want?
There is no way of avoiding the reblog system. Even if you have a tamplate without the reblog button, the function is still there, it's only hidden.
Another problem is, that you have to rely to the next commercial company. I don't think Tumblt will ever ban porn, but who knows?
And as you allready figgured out, the commenting system in Tumblr is not the best.

I'm pretty sure that you own cms blog on your own webspace is the best idea. I strongly suggest wordpress, because there are a million templates you can use, and bugs are usually fixed very fast. Allso there are a lot of tutorials how to use it.
The commenting system of wordpress is very good and easy to work with.
If you want your own webspace, this will cost you a few $ each month. I'm from Germany, and here a simple package including 1 domain and 10GB of webspace will cost you 4€ (4.5$) each month.
Setting up a Wordpress blog without any previous knowledge will take you maby a few days, but then you will be free from any restrictions forever.

The only thing you should take care for, is that you buy your webspace from an hoster that has no problem with porn.

If you have questions about that, feel free to contact me via Mail: evyx.mail@googlemail.com

    Cheers Evyx

  7. Couture here: You can do comments on Tumblr with Disqus, however, I'm not even sure that I'd bother. The utility would be like adding comments to Twitter.

I'd say if you want a blog, you may want to go for a blog. Tumblring is more like Tweeting. I don't think you update Humbled Harlots enough to be successful with it on Tumblr. It doesn't matter what you post/share as long as you do it fairly often.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to rebuild Degraded Damsels on wordpress instead of tumblr, but am thinking of starting a privately owned blog for Humbled Harlots once I figure out wordpress's nuances.
